Locked during lockdown? Life of a homemaker during the quarantine

A homemaker’s life is an endless whirlpool of chores. Being a homemaker is a choice for some and a necessity for some. These more or less compelled homemakers have the onus of keeping their families positive and in good health as the world faces uncertainty. Being a mother, it is a testing time to keep the minds of kids stable and positive. Covid-19 crisis has increased the bonding between the families and has evolved the role of a mother. Garnering the kids to develop new skills and explore their creativity is the role of women so that the kids come out even stronger after the quarantine days.

Why we are talking about homemaker’s mental health

You must be wondering why I am talking about a homemaker and relating her to the lockdown. Yes the topic is really relevant at this point of time because these days your home is not just a home, rather these days every home has an office and a school too. And especially when she is also an employee, she has to work from home as well as work for home.

During the on-going global corona crisis, it is the woman who has become the pillar of her home and keeping everything intact especially the children. As it is quite challenging for certain age of kids to make them understand the effects of pandemic and what’s more challenging is to keep them home 24×7 and that too safe and in a positive zone. This lockdown situation has brought the world to a standstill. Her focus has divided in multiple directions and she has to focus on kids, kitchen & households too. The children’s routine and life is hampering every single day. The summer days are usually utilized by kids in attending the summer camps. But at present the entire brunt of this lockdown is at women, and as mothers, they are playing huge role in channelizing their kids’ energy. Every single moment, apart from being a homemaker, they are playing the role of a teacher, a friend, a counselor and a cook to their children.

What a women should do

Women, being the backbone of her house, needs to be mentally strong to maintain peaceful environment at home. Keeping her wide range of responsibilities; it is very difficult for her to keep herself strong. Here I would like to share some tips which can help boost your moral & mental health:
• Take care of yourself at this time and this should be your utmost priority. Your food, your rest and your overall well-being can give a very positive impact to your mental as well as physical health.
• Try to find a small corner for yourself also. “Me-time” is time is always essential to keep yourself fresh n up.
• Find opportunities to amplify positive and hopeful stories and positive images of local people who have experienced COVID-19. For example, stories of people who have recovered or who have supported a loved one and are willing to share their experience.
• Do not spend continuous time in-front of any digital screen such as laptop & mobile. Since many of us are WFH ladies, it is advisable to keep taking breaks in between.
There are many ways to keep your-self up. Remember! You are the person most likely to know how you can de-stress and you should not be hesitant in keeping yourself psychologically well. This is not a sprint; it’s a marathon
